FRCA & FCARCSI MERSEY SELECTIVE COURSE

As has been the case since its inception some seven years ago, this mainly Lecture & Tutorial course is designed to cover those aspects of the FRCA Basic Sciences syllabus which are not well explained in the available texts. As such and as always, the course is suitable for both Primary and Final FRCA candidates.

Very informative. Very helpful session for the exams.

Covered the difficult and vast topic very well.

She made the day start with a flier! Excellent presentation. Very good teacher.

Really clear presentation. Went though basic principles therefore understand more complex principles. Assumed no prior knowledge and explained really well.

Interactive and also kept checking that we understand as went along.

Approachable. Understanding everything for the 1 st time ever (even harmonics!).

Excellent session. One of the best I have ever attended in my life.

Muscle Physiology:

Very clear and succinct.

Good overview of muscle physiology with explanations.

Acid-Base:

Interesting. New concept ‘SID’.

Difficult topic – well presented.

Difficult topic very well explained.

Excellent explanation of difficult to understand concepts.

Pharmacokinetics:

Fantastic, I wish I’d seen this lecture earlier.

It explained so much I struggled to understand before.

Very enthusiastic.

CVS Physiology:

Best by far!

Vast topic, could have done with another additional hour.

Excellent, lots of understanding. Very well presented.

Presented really well, interactive. Handout good with all diagrams we need.

Just right balance of ‘audience participation’ and factual information with clinical examples to aid understanding and remembering!

Couldn’t rate this lecture more highly! Especially as lot of conceptual ideas are poorly described in the books.

Respiration:

Unfortunately the only bad thing about this lecture was that it was a little too short!  

Isomers:

Excellent, thanks a lot. To be honest never understood (before) You make it so simple and interesting.

Again, excellent lecturer – made this subject which is extremely difficult to conceptualise and much forgotten since A-level chemistry v. interesting!

Extreme Physiology:

A good bit of light relief.

Many MCQ questions cover this subject – was quite confused about them before this talk.

Statistics:

Good start of the day!! Very good lecture.

Difficult topic to present, but done really well and even made sort of interesting! Good handout.

Very good effort. To the point presentation.

Very well presented. Actually made a very dry topic interesting.

Brilliant, please update handout to current presentation.

Although the subject is very dry, this presentation gave good practical advice on strategies to approach exam Qs as well as good clinical examples and worked examples.

Metabolism:

Excellent, concise and well taught.

I didn’t understand metabolism before but now it appears quite easy!

Exercise physiology:

Brilliant.

V. good. Not covered well in standard anaesthetics.

Brought all concepts from metabolic physiology and applied to exercise – thus making all these topics much more easy to understand.
